Through the Glass: A Seth-Inspired Reminder That Reality Is More Flexible Than We Think

This morning, something unusual caught my attention. On my bookshelf, where everything is kept in a specific order, one book was pulled slightly forward: The Magical Approach by Jane Roberts – Notes By Robert F. Butts – A Seth Book. I don’t remember moving it, yet there it was — inviting me to notice.

I took that as a sign and opened the book at random, eyes closed. The page I landed on described a dream Robert (Jane Roberts’ husband) once had:

He dreamed that their neighbor’s dog, Gus, was at the storm door waiting for food. The dog pushed his head through the glass — yet the glass didn’t shatter. There were no cuts, no scrapes, no damage at all. Robert gently pushed the dog’s head back through the pane, still unharmed. Then, with his own hand, he created a rectangular hole in the glass, as though making space without breaking anything.

    What the Dream Teaches Us

This dream is a beautiful metaphor for reality itself:

    • The glass represents the boundaries and rules we believe are solid and unchangeable.
    • The dog’s head moving safely through shows us that these limits can be softened and transcended without harm.
    • The rectangular hole reflects conscious creation — choosing to make an opening where you once thought there was none.

Seth often reminded us that reality is far more flexible than we imagine. What feels like a rigid barrier is often just the reflection of our beliefs.

How This Applies to Our Lives

If there’s an area where you feel “stuck” — whether in finances, relationships, personal growth, or even your daily schedule — this dream offers a reminder:

    • The limits may not be as solid as they seem.
    • You can explore gently, without fear of breaking something or being hurt.
    • With intention, you can create openings in the very places that once felt closed.

Reality is not a brittle wall but a cooperative medium, responding to the light touch of belief and imagination.

    A Gentle Invitation

Take a moment today and ask yourself:
Where in my life have I assumed the glass will shatter if I reach forward? What if instead, it simply softens — allowing me to pass through safely, or even create a clear opening with my own hands?

    Merlin’s Reflection

Sometimes Spirit pulls a book forward, or a dream rises from memory, to remind us that reality is not a locked box but a shimmering veil. Step gently. Experiment playfully. You may discover that the limits you once feared were never there at all.
