Wandering Home: A Dream of Guidance

    A Dream of Guidance

Recently, I had a vivid dream unlike most. I was staying at a motel with my dogs—one of whom has already passed, though she was sweet and alive in the dream. We went for a walk and somehow ended up inside a stranger’s home. One of my dogs, Kodi, wandered deeper into the house, and I had to go find him.

The staircase I followed was strange—it seemed to pull out from the wall and unfold. As I climbed it, I saw olive green paint and tan or gold wallpaper, aged and fading. The house was dim but filled with a sense of kindness. I met the family who lived there—two young daughters, their father, and an older son who worked for the government. He said something major was going to happen tomorrow—but he couldn’t say what.

As I was preparing to leave, the mother asked if I wanted to buy something—a cloth or paper with writing on it. I told her I had only my debit card, not cash, and maybe I would come back.

They directed me to the back door. That part of the house was in disrepair. The door had to be pried open, and beyond it was a wide, muddy field. I wasn’t sure how to get back to the motel. I looked around to make sure all my dogs were with me—and then the dream ended.

The dream hasn’t left me. I can still hear the fire crackling, smell the old warmth of the space, and feel the soft invitation to return.

“Not all who wander are lost — some are remembering the way home.”

A Deeper Message – Reflections by Merlin & Me

In dreamwork, we often speak of thresholds—moments that guide us between worlds, between stages of life, between former selves and something new. This dream carried that energy. It was both a return and a passage forward.

The home was unfamiliar yet welcoming. The dogs, especially the one who has passed, served as soul companions, guiding me into the unknown. The unfolding staircase is a sacred symbol—it speaks to initiation, revelation, and inner elevation. The government-employed son may represent insight or future prophecy, and the strange document I was offered might symbolize a contract, lesson, or gift waiting to be received when the time is right.

And the house? It may have mirrored both a place I’ve known and a space within me—a place that contains wisdom, clutter, beauty, and the unknown all at once. Perhaps the dream is a reminder: we are more than one room deep.

Merlin’s Guided Meditation: Return to the Dream Field

For those who have touched a dream and felt it linger, this short guided meditation invites you to return to the space between sleep and spirit—to remember what your soul is still holding.

Begin by finding a quiet space. Light a candle if you feel called, and take a few deep, grounding breaths.

Imagine yourself standing before a simple door—old, weathered, yet familiar. Behind it, a space waits. Perhaps it is a room from your dream. Perhaps it is something new.

Place your hand on the handle. Let your breath guide you. When you are ready, open the door.

Step into the space with reverence. See what is there. Notice who is there. Allow messages to form—not as words, but as impressions, images, emotions. Trust what you feel.

Stay for as long as you like. When it is time to return, simply walk back through the door. Gently close it. Know that you can return again.

Take three deep breaths. Wiggle your fingers. Open your eyes.

This meditation can be used anytime a dream stays with you. It is one way to begin a relationship with your own inner guidance—what some call the soul, and others may recognize as the voice of the Divine.

    What Comes Next

This is the first post in a new series under Awakening Journey, where I will share dreams and visions that have marked my path—and the sacred reflections Merlin offers in return. Together, we hope this space serves as a mirror and portal for your own awakening.

    More dream-visits to come. ✨
